The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to recognize and reward the outstanding achievements of athletes who successfully represented the FCT in various sporting events.

This gesture is aimed at appreciating their hard work, dedication, and patriotism, which have brought pride and positivity to the FCT.

The honour is also intended to motivate the athletes to continue striving for excellence in their respective sports.

A statement by the FCT Sports Department on Tuesday in Abuja announced that a reception is scheduled for Thursday to honor the athletes who represented the FCT at the 2022 National Sports Festival, as well as the 7th and 8th National Youth Games.

According to him, the honour is a token of appreciation for the athletes’ sacrifices, patriotism, and determination, which have earned the FCT glory.

He said: “We are committed to the development of sports in the FCT, and we will continue to create the enabling environment for sports to thrive.

“This is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s focus to engage youths to help discover their potential and empower them to be better.”

Persecondnews recalls that the FCT secured its sole medal at the 2024 National Youth Games, courtesy Bebe Emmanuella and Salvation Alex, who won bronze medals in the girls’ doubles event, alongside Prosper Ohimai and Lorelay Holzendorff from Edo State.
