The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) firefighters, with assistance from other sister agencies, responded swiftly and professionally to avert a potentially disastrous fire incident at the APMT Apapa Terminal on Saturday.

The fire, which erupted from one of the APMT cranes, was promptly extinguished before it could spread and cause damage to other facilities at the port.

Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara, NPA spokesman, in a statement given to Persecondnews, expressed gratitude to the NPA firemen for their expertise in containing the blaze.

“Thankfully, no lives were lost, and no additional facilities were affected by the fire,” Onyemekara said, attributing the successful outcome to the firefighters’ professionalism.

“The NPA has reassured port users and stakeholders that the current management, led by Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, remains committed to prioritizing the safety of life and property within Nigerian ports.

“This commitment extends to enhancing the ease of doing business in the ports.

“In the world of firefighting, understanding the fire triangle is crucial. This concept involves the three elements necessary for a fire to exist: oxygen, fuel, and heat. When these elements combine, a chemical reaction occurs, releasing energy in the form of heat and light.

“Firefighters must grasp this principle to effectively combat fires.

“The NPA’s prompt response to the fire incident demonstrates their preparedness and dedication to ensuring the safety of people and property. Their efforts have prevented potential disruptions to port operations and maintained the trust of stakeholders,” Onyemekara said.
