The Federal Government announced that all states will now sell a 50-kg bag of rice for N40,000, a 50% reduction.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement at the end of Monday’s Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

The government recently distributed 20 trucks of rice bags each to the 36 state governors to sell to Nigerians.

“There is also rice that is being sold at about 50 percent of its cost. A bag of rice is being sold as we speak now. This rice has been taken to various centres across all the states of the federation and is being sold at N40,000.

“Centres have been created so that those who need this rice can go there and buy it for N40,000,” he said.

According to Persecondnews, prices for a 50-kg bag of rice in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Jigawa, Abuja, and other federation states range from N75,000 to N80,000.

In June 2024, Nigeria’s food inflation hit 40.87 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics consumer price index report.
