The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has conducted the swearing-in ceremony for eight commissioner- nominees who had just undergone screening by the State House of Assembly.

Persecondnews reported that about six pro-Wike commissioners had resigned en masse last week following a threat by Fubara to probe the administration of the immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

A simmering political crisis has enveloped the state following a standoff between Fubara and his estranged political godfather over gargantuan debts, as well as alleged attempts by Wike to control the state’s resources.

The 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, who had defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2023, had threatened to impeach the governor.

During the oath-taking that took place in the government’s Executive Council Chamber, Fubara emphasized the importance of keeping accurate records in their respective ministries.

He urged the new commissioners to develop a meticulous work ethic, emphasizing that their attention to detail should show in the records they maintain.

The governor reminded them of the oath of service they took, emphasizing its significance as a guiding principle in their service to the state.

He reminded them of their duty to faithfully serve the people of Rivers State and urged them to view their appointments as a blessing from God.

“Uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and safeguard the dignity of the state. Your role is not to serve me, but to work tirelessly for the betterment of the state.

“I have confidence in your ability to uphold the honour of the state and your respective families, and I am optimistic that you enhance the achievements of this administration,” Fubara also said.
