The Senate during Thursday’s plenary session has confirmed Mr Musa Aliyu as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).

Aliyu, a lawyer and ex-Attorney-General of Jigawa State’s screening started at about 11:50 am after Senate Leader Bamidele Opeyemi raised a Point of Order to suspend the Senate rules and allow visitors into the red chamber.

His nomination was confirmed after it was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, with majority of Senators “voiceferously” supporting the nomination.

Persecondnews reported on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu had written to the red chamber to “expeditiously screen and confirm” Mr. Aliyu as the Chairman of ICPC.

“The new Chairman of the ICPC is nominated for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, following the President’s approval of the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave beginning on November 4, 2023, ahead of the expiration of his tenure on February 3, 2024,” the Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale had said in a statement.
