A minor fire has been reported at the cooling tower of Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC).

The fire broke out on Friday afternoon about 15.02pm, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) said in a statement obtained by Persecondnews.

It said the fire was ignited by ongoing welding activity at the top of the cooling tower.

The statement, however, said the fire will not affect the refinery rehabilitation project delivery schedule.

It noted that the prompt intervention of the company’s safety officers at the refinery helped to put out the fire at about 15.30 pm, adding “normalcy has since been restored.”

NNPCL said it will continue to adhere to the best safety standards in all its business operations.
