Ceaseless gory violence and bloodletting sweeping Imo State and other parts of Southeast Nigeria took another turn for the worse as a judge was shot dead on his seat during court proceedings by some gunmen.

The horrendous attack occurred in Ejemekwuru community in Oguta Local Government Area on Thursday, Persecondnews gathered.

According to reports, the gunmen had stormed the court while in session and dragged the judge, Nnaemeka Ugboma, out of the hallowed temple of justice and shot him dead.

Witnesses said the gunmen were not in a hurry to leave as they waited to ensure that he was dead before leaving the premises.

One of the lawyers said the gunmen came in on motorcycles and operated without any resistance.

During the shooting, the lawyers, litigants and court officials had to scamper for safety.

No reaction yet from the State Police Command on the incident.

Persecondnews recalls that Imo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party had accused APC Gov. Hope Uzodinma and his predecessor, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, also of APC of turning the state into a terror, theatre of war and conflict zone.

In a statement by its State’s Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike, the PDP alleged that the actions of Uzodinma and Okorocha were causing anxiety and tensions in Imo, which has claimed lives of scores of people in the three two years.

Okorocha was arrested after he allegedly broke into an estate belonging to his wife which was sealed by the Imo Government on the claims by the governor that the property is a product of ill-gotten wealth.
