No merger talks with Atiku, says Peter Obi’s  Labour Party

The spokesman for the Peter Obi-Datti Baba-Ahmed Campaign Organization, Yunusa Tanko, says his principal is unaware of any alliance or ongoing talks for a merger with the People’s Democratic Party presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.

Tanko, who said the campaign train of Obi-Datti is waxing strong, announced that they are currently in Sokoto and will be heading to Zamfara thereafter.

Persecondnews earlier reported that Atiku had on Wednesday indicated that he was in talks with the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria People’s Party presidential front runner, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, in a bid to sway them to his side to boost his chances in the February 25 poll.

He made this comment in a 15-minute interview with BBC Hausa service on Tuesday.

He had said:“Although, I see no threat in any of them, but we are in talks, and the discussion might yield a positive result that will see one of them coming.”

But Tanko promptly responded:“As of yesterday, before we left Numan, there was nothing of such nature. We are busy with campaigns. We are not aware of anything like an alliance.”

The spokesman said the allegations are baseless and that those who utter such are trying to ride on the goodwill and momentum the Obi-Datti campaign is getting from Nigerians.

“I think somebody is just trying to cash out on the Obi-Datti ticket. We are right now campaigning in Sokoto and we will be in Zamfara.”
