Enugu an hitherto peaceful and crime-free state may have fallen into the hands criminals and assassins as a former State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr Gab Onuzulike, has been felled by their bullets.

Some gunmen reportedly killed Onuzulike and his elder brother, Elvis Onuzulike in their car while returning from a burial ceremony.

Onuzulike, who was also a former Chairman of Oji River Local Government Area, was shot dead on Friday evening at Nkpokolo Achi.

Persecondnews reports that the killings took place while the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was attending a state banquet in Port Harcourt, Rivers State organized in honour of the G-5 Governors for the flag off of State PDP governorship campaign.

Members of G-5 are Governors Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Victor Ikpeazu (Abia).

However, luck ran against the gunmen as a team of security men including police gave them a hot chase, killing one of them.

“Another member of the fleeing gang was also arrested,” a police source said.

Enugu State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident while its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has not responded to press enquiries.
