Breaking: Call off your strike, court orders ASUU

883

The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Wednesday directed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off their year-long ongoing strike.

Justice Polycarp Hamman handed down the verdict in a ruling on the interlocutory injunction filed by the Federal Government against the university teachers.

He restrained ASUU from continuing with the industrial action pending the determination of the suit before the court.

Persecondnews reports that the order is coming on the heels of threats by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) not to allow any political campaign hold across the country until the public universities are reopened.

ASUU had shut down the tertiary institutions since February 14, 2022 to press home their demands.

Ahead of today’s ruling, ASUU had said any verdict of the Industrial Court that would force lecturers back to classrooms might have a “negative impact.”

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osadeko, had while meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, said: “lf lecturers are forced to return to classes, what kind of education are they expecting students to get?”
