Judge to rapist: You are guilty as charged! Convict, 27, begins lifelong journey to jail

The full weight of the law and maximum penalty for rapists has been invoked by a court in Ekiti State as a 27-year-old rapist, Farotimi Samuel, was ushered into the prison to spend the rest of his life in the facility.

“I hold that the prosecution has established the ingredients of the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.

“He is found guilty as charged and is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment,” Persecondnews quotes Justice Adekunle Adeleye of an Ado Ekiti High Court pronounced.

Samuel was tried for conspiracy and rape.

He committed the crime on Jan. 29, 2018 at Oke-Ureje, Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti, the state capital, when he conspired with others yet to be apprehended to rape a 14-year-old girl.

The offences contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code and Section 31 of the Child Right Law, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The teenage girl had told the court that she went to buy Garri and sugar and while returning, she was accosted by three men.

They covered her mouth with clothes and led her to an uncompleted building nearby before pouncing on her.

The three boys all forcefully had sex with her, she said adding that she could only recognise the convicted person among the trio.

During the trial, the prosecutor, Mr Olawale Fapohunda, called five witnesses, while the convict’s confessional statement was also tendered as exhibit.

Samuel, the convict’s lawyer, Mr Chris Omokhafe, called no witness to quash the charges.
