Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, has secured a crucial 75-69 overtime win over Rwanda in their third qualification game for the 2027 FIBA World Cup.

The intense match took place at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès in Tunisia on Sunday, marking Nigeria’s first victory in three games.

The Nigerian team had a sloppy start, trailing Rwanda 21-12 at the end of the first quarter.

They, however, improved significantly in the second quarter, narrowing the margin to 27-25 by halftime.

The D’Tigers’ momentum carried into the third quarter, where they took the lead 45-36.

Rwanda refused to give up, forcing the match into overtime with a strong fourth-quarter performance.

Nigeria held their nerve in the added minutes, outscoring Rwanda 14-8 to secure a vital 6-point win.

The D’Tigers are now third in Group C with one win and two losses.

The top three teams from the group will qualify for the final round, with the top five African teams earning a spot in the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.

Nigeria’s next fixtures are scheduled for July, facing Tunisia on July 2, Guinea on July 3, and Rwanda on July 5.
