Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has opened up about a difficult chapter of his life, revealing that his heavy smoking habit nearly derailed his music career and affected his ability to function confidently as an artiste.

The singer made the revelation while reflecting on his past experiences with smoking and the toll it eventually took on his mental state and professional life.

Bella Shmurda disclosed that he eventually stopped smoking after noticing that it was beginning to affect him negatively.

According to him, the decision was not simply about quitting a habit but about protecting his future and career.

“I stopped smoking years back because I started getting anxiety and became scared of the future,” the singer said.

He explained that the anxiety became so intense that it began interfering with his interactions with people.

For an artiste whose career requires constant communication, performances, studio sessions and public appearances, the effect was particularly damaging.

Bella said smoking eventually made it difficult for him to communicate freely, noting that he would struggle to talk to people because of the anxiety it triggered.

“I started getting anxiety and became scared of the future,” he recalled, describing the period as one that forced him to reconsider his lifestyle and the direction his life was taking.

The singer also revealed that his smoking habit had become excessive at one point, giving an indication of just how deeply the habit had become embedded in his lifestyle.

“I used to smoke £1,000 worth of weed every day,” Bella reportedly said, highlighting the enormous amount he was spending on the substance during that period.
