Content creator Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has addressed the controversy surrounding her involvement in a proposed celebrity boxing match with reality TV star Phyna, saying she has no interest in being dragged into drama or misunderstandings.
The controversy erupted after Phyna called out Ashmusy, alleging that the content creator had tried to have her removed from the proposed boxing event after she had introduced her to the organisers.
Phyna said she had been in discussions with the organisers since February and had recommended Ashmusy as a potential opponent.
Phyna subsequently expressed her displeasure publicly, accusing Ashmusy of betraying her after she allegedly learnt that Ashmusy wanted her dropped from the event and replaced with another person.
However, Ashmusy, in a lengthy statement shared on social media, denied asking the organisers to drop Phyna, saying her position had been misunderstood and that she never sought to undermine her.
According to her, Phyna initially brought the boxing opportunity to her attention, but she was uncomfortable with the idea of fighting someone she was already on good terms with.
She said she only communicated to the organisers that, if she eventually participated, she would prefer to face someone else.
Ashmusy said the controversy was particularly painful because she had deliberately rebranded herself this year and made a conscious decision to stay away from trouble, drama and unnecessary publicity.
“For years, I’ve felt constantly misunderstood on this space. Somehow, everything I say or do gets turned into something completely different,” she wrote.
She said she had been focused on her life, films and content and had genuinely tried to stay out of the news, making the developments surrounding the boxing match especially upsetting.
“I take full accountability for everything, including over trusting, once again. It is what it is. I’m learning, I’m growing, and apparently that never really ends,” she said.
The content creator also revealed that the controversy made her consider quitting social media altogether, recalling how peaceful her extended break in January had been.
“My long break in January was so peaceful that last night, I genuinely considered disappearing from this space permanently,” she wrote, while stressing that her decision was not directed at any particular person but was prompted by what she described as the toxicity surrounding social media.
Ashmusy said she had now stopped trying to convince people to understand her, adding that she would rather accept whatever opinions people chose to have about her.
“Moving forward, if I’m still here, please don’t involve me in anything that carries drama or misunderstandings. I don’t care what I stand to lose. I genuinely just want peace,” she stated.
She subsequently confirmed that she would no longer participate in the proposed boxing match, effectively stepping away from the controversy and the planned bout.
Ashmusy also apologised to anyone she may have offended directly or indirectly, while acknowledging that those who care about her were equally affected by the situation.
“To anyone I’ve offended directly or indirectly, I sincerely apologise with all humility,” she wrote.
She said she intended to return her attention to her films, content and the life she is building, thanking her supporters for continuing to stand by her despite the controversy.
