The family of late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, has officially unveiled his burial arrangements, with the actor set to be laid to rest on June 18 in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.
The heartbreaking announcement came weeks after the actor’s death on May 11 following what the family described as a courageous battle with cancer.
He was said to have passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He was 40 years old.
Persecondnews had exclusively broken the news of the actor’s death shortly after the tragic incident and also reported that preparations were already underway to bury him within two weeks.
In a statement shared via Instagram, the family expressed deep gratitude to friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers who stood by them through the difficult period, noting that the outpouring of love and prayers had been overwhelming and comforting.
According to the burial programme released by the family, a Service of Songs will hold on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with guests expected to attend in white attire as a symbol of honour and celebration of the actor’s life.
The family further disclosed that a wake-keep would take place on Wednesday, June 17, ahead of the funeral service and interment scheduled for Thursday, June 18, in Abia State.
A reception for guests and sympathisers will follow immediately after the burial rites.
In the emotional statement, the family described the late actor as a loving son, brother, husband, friend and colleague whose presence brought warmth, laughter and comfort to many people around him.
“Forever in Our Hearts,” the statement began, as the family reflected on what they called a life “beautifully lived and deeply impactful,” adding that Alex Ekubo’s kindness, compassion and devotion to God would never be forgotten.
They noted that although his death came too soon, the actor lived a life filled with generosity, faith and genuine love for people, stressing that his memories would continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him personally and professionally.
The family also invited colleagues in the entertainment industry, fans and associates from across the country to join them in celebrating the actor’s legacy and honouring the remarkable impact he made during his lifetime.
