Trump Orders Review of Green Card Holders from 19 Countries

578

The Trump administration has announced a review of the immigration status of Green Card holders from Afghanistan and 18 other countries following a shooting incident involving an Afghan national who worked with American forces.

The move is part of a broader effort to enhance national security and vetting processes.

USCIS Director Joseph Edlow stated that a “full-scale, rigorous reexamination” of every Green Card for every alien from countries of concern has been directed.

The countries in question were identified in a June executive order by President Trump, which classified them as “of Identified Concern”.

The 19 countries affected include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, which face a full travel ban.

Additionally, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela are subject to partial restrictions.

The suspect in the Washington shooting, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was granted asylum in April this year, not permanent residency.

He had previously worked with American forces in Afghanistan.
