A two-storey building in Oyingbo area of Lagos, which had reportedly been marked as distressed, collapsed at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, October 27, at No. 54 Cole Street.

So far, emergency responders have managed to rescue at least 15 people.

Teams, including officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are actively working at the site to free individuals still caught beneath the rubble.

The collapse comes despite earlier warnings for occupants to vacate the structure due to its condition.

Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said: “It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked as distressed before collapsing on the occupants.

“So far, 15 people—seven adult males, four adult females, and four children—have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries.”

She said the victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.

As of 6:00 a.m., no deaths was recorded while efforts are still underway to rescue others feared trapped in the rubble.

The building’s collapse plunged the entire area into confusion, prompting residents and onlookers to quickly join emergency teams in a frantic, collaborative rescue effort to save those trapped.
