Just a day after the Imo State Governor raised the minimum wage to N104,000, the Ebonyi State Government has announced an increase for its civil servants, from N70,000 to N90,000.

This new wage takes effect immediately and applies to all government workers, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of its employees.

According to Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, Commissioner for Information and Orientation in a statement on Thursday, he said, “We want to state categorically that this is not a political statement, as this government does not toy with workers’ welfare.”

Persecondnews reported that Imo Gov. Hope Uzodimma, had on Wednesday approved a new minimum wage of N104,000 for civil servants, marking an increase from the previous state’s minimum wage of N76,000.

In addition to the minimum wage increase, the government also approved salary adjustments for other professional cadres.

For instance, the minimum wage for medical doctors has been raised from N215,000 to N503,000, while the minimum wage for teachers in tertiary institutions has been increased from N119,000 to N222,000.

Omebe said the Ebonyi government has already offset pension and gratuities of state retirees from its creation in 1996 to date.

He emphasized that the government is committed to the welfare of its workers, saying, “The governor is a leader, builder of capacity, human beings and infrastructure”.

The State Executive Council also considered implementing the eighth-year tenure policy for directors and the immediate retirement of those who have served in the same cadre for the specified period, he said.

Omebe disclosed that the EXCO exhaustively deliberated on the issue and approved its implementation for the affected permanent secretaries and directors.
