Lionel Messi once again showcased his legendary talent, netting two first-half goals to lead Inter Miami to a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old Argentine superstar is in blistering form, having now scored two goals in each of his last four MLS games.

This remarkable achievement sets a new league record, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.

Messi’s impressive form has seen him score 14 goals in 15 MLS games, putting him just two goals behind leading scorer Sam Surridge, who has played six more games for Nashville this season.

Inter Miami’s coach, Javier Mascherano, praised Messi’s incredible talent, saying, “Obviously, Leo is a special player. For me, he’s the best player that has played this sport in history.

“It’s unbelievable how he continues doing things that maybe many years ago we thought that we cannot see at this moment.”

Messi’s first goal came in the 27th minute when he took advantage of a Revolution miscue and fired a left-footed shot from the heart of the area.

He doubled the score 11 minutes later, charging onto a long through ball from Sergio Busquets and curling a left-footed shot beyond the reach of Slovenian goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic.

Mascherano praised the connection between Messi and Busquets, saying, “They have played for many years, so just when they see each other, they connect and they know what they think. In the second goal, Busquets understands when and where Leo wants the ball. It’s fantastic for us.”

The victory lifted Inter Miami from sixth to fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, with 35 points from 15 games, seven points behind leaders FC Cincinnati but with three fewer matches played.

Mascherano said the late goal from New England meant he couldn’t afford to take Messi out, adding, “We know that at some point we have to find the moment to rest him.”

Inter Miami’s jam-packed July schedule continues on Saturday against Nashville, one of three matches in the next 10 days.
