Spanish giants Real Madrid have booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup after edging out Juventus 1-0 in a tightly contested match.

Gonzalo Garcia’s header in the 54th minute proved to be the difference-maker for the Spanish side, who were further bolstered by Kylian Mbappe’s return from illness as a substitute.

This win marks another impressive performance under new coach Xabi Alonso, who has yet to taste defeat with the team.

In another quarterfinal matchup, Borussia Dortmund secured their spot after defeating Mexican side Monterrey 2-1.

Serhou Guirassy’s brace helped Dortmund take a commanding lead, although Monterrey pushed hard in the second half.

Dortmund’s coach, Niko Kovac, downplayed his team’s chances, saying their quarterfinal spot was a “bonus” for overperforming.

However, Real Madrid will need to be on high alert, given Dortmund’s ability to replicate their first-half performance against the Spanish giants.

Quarterfinal Schedule

The quarterfinal matches are set to take place on July 4 and 5, with the following fixtures:

– Fluminense vs Al-Hilal: July 4, 20:00 (Nig Time), Camping World Stadium, Orlando

– Palmeiras vs Chelsea: July 5, 02:00 (Nig Time), Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia

– Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich: July 5, 17:00 (Nig Time), Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
