Fire at Cawthorne Channel 1 Barges: NNPCL Emergency Team Swiftly Contains Outbreak, No Casualties

A swift response by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) emergency team effectively curtailed the spread of a fire that broke out on Wednesday, February 19, at the Cawthorne Channel 1 Barges in Rivers State, affecting the dry crude storage barge BESTAF5.

The fire spread to other barges, but thanks to the swift response of emergency teams and industry partners, it was successfully contained.

According to a statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Olufemi Soneye on Thursday, the incident occurred at approximately 14:10 hours and did not impact flow station operations.

He said there were no casualties, and that all personnel are safe.

The national oil company reiterated its commitment to safety, environmental protection, and operational integrity.
