Nigerian Lawmakers Delay Plenary Resumption, Citing Renovation and Oversight Needs

973

The House of Representatives has postponed their plenary resumption, initially scheduled for January 23, to January 30.

Although the exact reason for the delay is unspecified, previous postponements have been attributed to factors like chamber renovations and the need for more time to conduct oversight visits to ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

The new date for resumption is now for Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

A statement by the Reps spokesperson, Mr. Akin Rotimi, said; “This development was communicated to Honourable Members through an internal memorandum issued by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., on the directive of the House Leadership.

“The postponement is necessary to allow committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defenses with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

“This measure ensures a thorough and comprehensive approach to legislative responsibilities.

“The House remains committed to fulfilling its legislative mandate for the benefit of Nigerians and appreciates the understanding of all stakeholders.”
