Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his wife Cristina Serra have announced their decision to part ways after 30 years together.

The separation is described as amicable, with the couple stating that they have grown apart in recent years.

Guardiola and Serra met in 1994 and married in 2014 near Barcelona.

They share three children: Maria, 24, Marius, 22, and Valentina, 17.

According to sources close to the couple, the decision to separate was made in December, with only close friends and family initially aware of the situation.

Guardiola and Serra spent Christmas together with their children, and it is understood that they will continue to co-parent their youngest daughter, Valentina, who lives with Serra in Barcelona.

Guardiola had often spoken publicly about his wife. In January 2024, he said: “My wife is the best in the world at many things, especially fashion.

“She says normally to me, don’t wear this or wear that, so I follow. I’m smart enough to know when people are much better than me, follow their advice.”

Serra, a Brazilian journalist, left Manchester in 2019 to pursue a career in fashion with her family’s company, Serra Claret.

Guardiola, meanwhile, has been focused on his managerial role at Manchester City, signing a new two-year deal with the Premier League champions in November.

Despite the personal challenges he may be facing, Guardiola will be hoping to focus solely on on-pitch matters this week as Manchester City play Brentford.

The team is currently sixth on the Premier League table, and Guardiola will be looking to secure a win to boost their chances of retaining the title.
