The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, on Monday rallied the support of critical stakeholders and Nigerians for Finidi George, the newly appointed coach of the senior national team, the Super Eagles.

Enoh expressed his confidence in Finidi George’s ability to lead the Super Eagles to new heights during the unveiling of George as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The minister pointed out that the new coach needed the support of all Nigerians to succeed.

He said that, with his appointment, Finidi George has the responsibility to bring back the liveliness and excitement of Nigerian football.

The Minister noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu started with so much support for Nigerian football, adding, “We can’t afford to let him down.”

In his remarks earlier, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Ibrahim Gusau, said Finidi George’s appointment signaled a new dawn in the history of Nigerian football.

He said that his appointment was in line with Nigerians’ demand for an indigenous coach to manage the Super Eagles.

He explained that it was in deference to this yearning that the federation directed the technical team saddled with the responsibility of picking the coach to look inward and choose an indigenous coach for the national team.

He called on all Nigerians to support him in succeeding in his new role, especially with the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers in sight.

He assured that, as a policy, the Nigerian Football Federation gave Finidi George the freedom to choose his technical staff.

Gusau emphasized that the assistants will receive their allowances on a game-by-game basis to prevent the payment crises that plagued the process in the past.

He also gave them the assurance that they would be eligible for the bonuses and benefits that players and coaches receive.

In his response, Finidi George, the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles, thanked the NFF and Nigerians for his appointment.

He promised to put in his best effort to lift Nigerian football to the next level.

Former Nigerian international, Daniel Amokachi; Assistant Coach, Olatunji Baruwa; Goalkeeper Trainer Chima Onyeka; Fitness Trainer and Benjamin James were also unveiled as members of the technical team.
