Despite Layi's undeniable comedic flair, proponents of Sabinus argued vehemently that their favorite entertainer was more deserving of the award.

In the aftermath of Layi Wasabi’s triumph at the African Magic Viewer Choice Awards (AMVCA), social media platforms have become battlegrounds for fans who are divided over the perceived snubbing of fellow digital content creator Sabinus.

The contentious debate over who truly deserved the accolade has refused to dissipate, intensifying in the 72 hours following the event’s conclusion.

Layi Wasabi emerged victorious at the prestigious AMVCA, clinching the coveted Best Digital Content Creator of the Year, defeating the likes of Sabinus, Taomma, and Mr. Macaroni, among others.

Supporters of the acclaimed skitmaker lauded his comedic talent and creative prowess, asserting that his win was well-deserved, but Sabinus fans and other observers believe their favorite comedian should have won it, asking the organizers to explain how Sabinus was not considered for the award.

The announcement of Layi’s victory ignited a firestorm of controversy as fans of Sabinus, another prominent figure in Nigeria’s digital content landscape, expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome.

Despite Layi’s undeniable comedic flair, proponents of Sabinus argued vehemently that their favorite entertainer was more deserving of the award.

Central to the dispute are the contrasting styles and approaches employed by Layi and Sabinus in their respective content-creation endeavors.

While Layi’s rise to prominence in the skit-making sphere has been relatively recent, spanning approximately three years, his supporters argue that he has rapidly ascended to the ranks of Nigeria’s top skitmakers.

Conversely, proponents of Sabinus contended that his comedic genius transcends mere laughter, emphasizing the nuanced humor and intellectual depth present in his skits.

They argue that Sabinus’ content is not only inherently funny but also intellectually stimulating, making it deserving of recognition at prestigious events such as the AMVCA.

Amidst the fervent debates raging across social media platforms, fans find themselves torn between loyalty to their favorite content creators and an objective assessment of artistic merit.

A fan believed to be loyal to Sabinus on the X platform said the organizers should explain the criteria adopted in choosing the winner of the category, alleging that he sensed tribal favoritism, but he was quickly countered by another fan who said he should be careful not to paint a tribal game with the award as the winner deserved to be crowned.
