The trigger-happy police officer who shot a young man, Toheeb Eniafe, at a filling station on Wednesday in Ikoyi area of Lagos has been identified, police authority has said.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday obtained by Persecondnews.

According to him, the cop is serving at the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Base 17, Lion Building, on Lagos Island.

He stated that the investigation was ongoing and that the public would receive updates shortly.

“The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.

“Investigation is still ongoing, and further findings will be made available.

“Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice,” the PPRO said.

Persecondnews recalls that Eniafe was fatally shot on Wednesday at a petrol station at Obalende in Ikoyi.

According to reports, some security agents shot him as he and several others resisted their attempts to purchase fuel without joining the line.
