In Ogijo, Ogun State, a man and his son pounced on Tope Owoade, 43, the wife of a neighbour living together in a tenement building, severely injuring and killing her. The suspects, Chizoke Obiadada, 54, and his son, 17, are now cooling their heels in police custody. Persecondnews gathered that a disagreement over a small matter between the dead and the suspects erupted into an uncontrollable outburst of rage, which resulted in the fatal occurrence. The deceased had attempted to keep the suspects off her “work table,” which she used to sell animal skin (ponmo) and this ultimately resulted in her demise. The state command’s spokeswoman, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Saturday in Abeokuta, stating that the suspects had been taken into custody on Friday. She said on March 29, the deceased’s husband, Isiaka Owoade, filed a report with the Divisional Police Officer at Ogijo alleging that his wife had been beaten by neighbours, which ultimately led to her death.

“Owoade narrated that on Friday when he returned from a journey, his late wife informed him that on Thursday about 8:30 p.m., their neighbours, a father and son, beat her mercilessly and inflicted injuries on her.

“He said his wife was beaten because she cautioned the duo against sitting on the work table she used in selling edible animal skin.

“He added that the beating later resulted in her bleeding severely from the womb and in her private part,” Odutola said in a statement obtained by Persecondnews on Saturday.

The Police spokesperson said the deceased’s husband added that his wife was thereafter taken to two private hospitals where she was rejected.

“He further stated that his wife, however, gave up the ghost while she was being taken to a government hospital.” she said

Odutola said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
