The House of Representatives has elected its Speaker and the Deputy Speaker respectively.

He is Mr Tajudeen Abbas, representing Zaria constituency in Kaduna State while the Deputy is Mr Benjamin Kalu from Abia.

Abba, who is the “anointed” candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated Ahmed Idris Wase, the former Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives and Aminu Sani Jaji.

Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, the outgoing Majority Leader of the House had nominated Abbas and was seconded by Mr Nnolim Nnaji.

Persecondnews reports that Ado-Doguwa had withdrawn in the last minute from the speakership race for the party’s candidate.

For the Deputy Speaker, the immediate past House Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Benjamin Kalu was elected unopposed.

Kalu was nominated for the position by Mr Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos State) and seconded by Mrs Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim (APC- Yobe).

The duo has taken oath of office.
