Drunk corporal kills Nigerian Army General in Lagos

Brig.-Gen. A.O. James of the Nigerian Army has been killed by a corporal, also serving in the Army.

The incident occurred about 10.30pm on Tuesday General James was trekking to his residence inside the barracks in Lagos.

The corporal, Abayomi Edun, who was believed to be drunk, was driving an SUV with registration no. EKY 177 FX  recklessly in the barracks before hitting the General.

Persecondnews gathered that the General was rushed to the NAFRC medical facility where he was confirmed dead.

In a statement, the set of James at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, described his death as shocking.

“Our indefatigable, humble, friendly bridge builder, the Monitor General SEC 40 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Brig.-Gen. A.O. James, mni just departed.

“He died from injuries sustained from a knock down on the road yesterday (15/11/22) evening in Lagos.”

The late General had first and second degrees in Accounting and Finance and also a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and held memberships of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Nigerian Institute of Directors (MIoD), Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACTI), and the National Institute (mni).

Meanwhile, the drunk Edun has been arrested and is being detained by NAFRC provost marshals investigating the matter.
