Senators Launch Query on Buhari's Letter Calling Osinbajo 'Coordinator' of Nation's Affairs

Per Second News----A  band of bipartisan Senators Tuesday rejected President Muhammadu Buhari's letter to the Senate describing vice president Osinbajo as 'coordinator' of the nation's affairs.

“I wish to inform the distinguished senate that I will be away for a scheduled medical follow-up with my doctors in London. The length of my stay will be determined by the doctors’ advice."

“While I am away, the vice-president will coordinate the activities of the government, Buhari said in the letter.

The senators are revolting about VP Osinbajo's powers after Mr. Buhari failed to address him as “acting president”.

Citing section 145 of the constitution, Mao Ohabunwa, (PDP) Abia North,  said for the sake of clarity, the letter should be sent back to the president.

He argued that there was no word like coordinating president or vice-president in the constitution.

“I come with a constitutional point of order arising from the letter you just read from the president,” he said.

“Mr President I don’t think in our constitution we have anything like coordinating president of vice-president, it’s either you are a vice-president or you are acting president.

“Any letter should be unambiguous and very clear, so I’m saying that this letter really does not convey anything because coordinating has no place in our constitution. We having been having letters like this, you tell us he is the acting president so we know who to deal with as a senate.

“I am saying that this letter for me is not right and maybe it should be sent back.”

"This early warning spells serious trouble for the country, said a ranking APC senator.

" President Buhari should be well aware by now of the appropriate and necessary protocol to safeguard our nation's democracy".

" In unprecedented acts  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has played essential role in this administration, said a top APC chieftain from the Southeast, he has been loyal and has done everything to win the confidence of the president."

"President Buhari's effusive accompanying remarks on his return from the last medical vacation about the VP were even more unprecedented, and I wonder why the letter did not refer to him as acting this time around."

Osinbajo has shaped the second office in ways beyond his contributions to the Buhari administration, said Obinna Ofodile,  a PDP stalwart from Anambra.

Osinbajo has consistently drew significant assignments, such as implementing the economic plan, negotiating various budget deals with leaders of the national assembly, leading numerous missions to trouble spots, fostering peace in the Niger-Delta and creating an enabling business environment, according to Per Second News findings.

Credible multiple sources familiar with the inner workings of the Villa told Per Second News that the vice president’s continuing influence is giving the cabal sleepless nights.

VP Osinbajo is demonstrating that a vice president can be loyal without surrendering his public identity and becoming lost in the president’s shadow. Many of his predecessors, even those who spoke candidly and forcefully to presidents in private, were seen by the public as  ambitious. Osinbajo has been preserving his separate identity largely by using public events to address issues and communicate values important to him but consistent with the Buhari administration policy.

Information at Per Second News disposal suggests that a band of three cabal were upset when Osinbajo was praised by many for his handling of the economy the last time Buhari was away.  Osinbajo’s offense was in stabilizing, anticipating, not contradicting, administration policy.

A powerful member of the cabal has hijacked the job of the president, vice-president, and Secretary-General of the federation.
