Sahara Reporter’s publisher, Omoyele Sowore released after brief detention

The Lagos State Police Command has released the publisher of Sahara Reporters’, Omoyele Sowore, after a brief detention. 

He was arrested by the Lagos Police over complaints of alleged threat to life at Ikeja in Lagos and moved to area F on Wednesday after Mr Lekan Fatodu, lodged complaint to police. 

In a communication exchange with Per Second News Wednesday night he claimed that his arrest was orchestrated by the Lagos Police and some gangs of a former minister who is currently facing corruption charges.

Images and footage on social media shows the publisher being held forcefully by the police. Sowore has in recent times exposed the corrupt actions of public officials in Nigeria.

 Mr Sowore was accused of publishing an alleged money laundry publication in which Mr. Fatodu was indicted of assisting Nigerian politicians in moving money out of the country.

 

In a story titled “How Femi Fani-Kayode Used Fronts To Receive Funds From Ex-NSA Dasuki’s Arms Purchase Funds”, Saharareporters claims: “Former President Jonathan reportedly approved for Mr. Dasuki to pay some monies to Mr. Fani-Kayode through Leeman Communications Limited, a company managed by a Uk-based journalist and PR consultant, Lekan Fatodu. The former NSA then wired the payment through an account, FG/NS062014. Investigators allege that, as soon as Leeman Communications Ltd received the funds, Mr. Fani-Kayode then sent text messages to Leeman Communications Ltd to release his portion of the payment through a female front, Olushola Grace Obaze, through her account number, 001-542-8962, at Diamond Bank.”

Reacting to his arrest, Sowore wrote on Facebook: “I was physically attacked today by a Gang led by Lekan Fatodu this part of a VIDEO of him assaulting me before police officers at Area “F” in Ikeja in Lagos”

 

“After the police “intervened” soon as I was attacked by Lekan Fatodu and his friends in Lagos we were taken to the CP’s office in Lagos. Turns out he was in on this, he pulled out a supposed petition written by Lekan from his hat after that he became very hostile towards me and ordered that we be driven to State CID, at Panti in Lagos. It is very obvious that this was planned between Lekan Fatodu and the police. They offered him unbridled support as he continued attacking me in the presence of the police. I could have been I am familiar with this style of the Nigerian police. We are now being driven to Panti in Yaba res of Lagos,” he added.
