US Ambassadorial Fund: Nigeria Receives $116,000 Grant For Cultural Heritage Preservation.

Abuja-Nigeria has received the sum of $116,000 as grant from the United States Ambassodorial fund for the preservation of the Nigerian cultural heritage.
 
Speaking on Monday in an event to sign a memorandum of understanding with three institutions on the grant,the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador W.Stuart  Symington noted that the US embassy is out to help Nigeria in remembering its common history in order to better celebrate their heritage in the future as well as project  them to the rest of the world.
 
He however called on universities, private sectors as well as heads of museums to put more efforts in maintaining memories as well as physical artifacts that reflects the history of the country and to help translate these histories to other generations.
 
Also, the Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments(NCMM) Mallam Yusuf Usman who stated that the museums have benefited from the Ambassodorial fund on three occasions, stressed that the support will help for the organization of the six museum storage facilities to bring in new collection and open new opportunities for museum professionals in proper organization as well as exhibitions.
 
While noting that the fund is the highest amount that has been given to Nigeria under the US Ambassodorial fund, he gave the assurance that the fund will be properly utilized, adding that Nigeria will benefit greatly from the project.
 
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Ibrahim Garba stated that the grant is an additional support to the university and will bring sustainable development to save the cultural heritage of the country.
 
He further noted that the fund is coming at a right time as the school  has secured fund from the federal government to build an art gallery.
 
Earlier, the Unit Director, Collection Unit, International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration  of  Cultural Property (ICCROM), Catherine  Antomarchi said that the ICCROM is out to help reorganize many museums that are created but sometimes do not have the resources to handle accumulated situations.
 
She further said that the main idea behind the reorganization of the museums is to to plant the seed for progress and change in the museums, adding that the aim is to work with universities as well as other agencies.
 
Antomarchi called on the media and the education sector to help create awareness of the existence of the collections.
 
 The Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments(NCMM),  Ahmadu Bello University(ABU) Zaria and the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM)
